Model Illinois Government is deeply saddened by the event at Northern Illinois University earlier today. The NIU, delegates as well as the rest of the student, staff, and faculty, are in our thoughts.

The Organizational Assembly has approved Bylaw Amendment 2007-2008.1. The amendment has been added to the Governing Documents.

The House Bills for the 2008 simulation have been posted. The Senate Bills will be posted shortly.

The Governor has officially announced the September 30, 2007 Special Session. The notification letter with call in information can be found here. Also the agenda for the Special Session can be found here.

The Governor has called a special meeting of the Executive Board for September 30 at 1:00 p.m. in order to discuss delegate fees. This meeting will be held via conference call. As with all Executive Board meetings, it will be open to all delegates and advisors. The conference call information will be posted in the come days. Questions regarding the meeting can be directed to Governor McFarland

My friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I must tell you of the loss of one of our greatest members. Michaella Grounds, a member of the House at several simulations, passed away yesterday after a car accident. http://www.dailyregister.com/articles/2007/08/29/news/news4.txt I will forward more details regarding services for Michaella once I have them.

Model Illinois Government, and myself, wish to send our deepest sympathies to Michaella’s family and all those involved. She will be greatly missed.

The Executive Board has approved the nomination of Steven Jerome to the position of Attorney General, and wishes to congratulate and welcome him.

Governor McFarland has nominated Steven Jerome from Northeastern Illinois University to take the open position of Chief Justice. He nomination letter can be found here. The Executive Board will hold a confirmation vote for Mr. Jerome at the July 15 meeting.

The Chief Justice application is now available here. All applications must be returned to Governor McFarland by July 1. The new Chief Justice will be nominated by the Governor by July 8.

In order to carry out her new duties as Student Board of Trustees Member for Millikin University, Chief Justice Meghan Sims has tenured her resignation. She will continue to serve as the Chief Justice until a new person is nominated and approved by the Executive Board. Here letter of resignation can be read here. Model Illinois Government would like to thank Meghan for her years of service and whishes her nothing but the best.
